Fundraising Via A Lottery...

Hello All!

Some time ago, several different ideas were presented for ways to raise funds for server costs every month. One of these ideas was a Betaone Lottery.

A certain amount (in USD, and to be determined) say $5.00 would give a person an entry into the lottery. A random drawing would take place, and half of the proceeds would go to betaone for server costs, the other half to the lucky winner.

Any ideas, suggestions or additions to this idea?

I think it is something worth looking although I am not sure whether $5/mo would work. Perhaps the same monthly amount but over a 3 or 6 month period would be better.

I have no idea where BetaOne is run from, but you may want to be careful with this idea if you're in the US. The feds may not take kindly to unauthorized lotteries. And you know someone will tell them. I guess if you're not in the US, I suppose it could work. I would rather see another sort of fundraiser.

Are BetaONE financials available for all to see? If you guys tell us exactly how much you need and what it's used for, maybe more people would donate. You could also give donors special privileges that others don't get. Some people need an incentive. And if not enough people donate to make the monthly bill, take the board down and post a notice that not enough members care about the board put a few bucks in the kitty. Maybe not having the board for a while will wake some people up.

By the way, I would gladly contribute to the board, but I have read many horror stories the past several months about PayPal concerning fraud. I don't trust them at all with my credit card info. I won't go through them. Any other methods of contributing? Wire it through Western Union, perhaps?
