recently my computer is running slow as hell,, i just built it, its a p4 3.0 ghz 8000fsb with 1gb of ddr ram behind it, with a 128 radeon 9200 8x agp video card, usualy i cann uzip a . rar or .tar file under 5 minutes maybe less, but know its taking me almost a half hour for the same thing, same a s transferring files from one internal drive to another...

i have run ad aware many times, removed any unwanted things, i have norton 03 installed and updated as off september 11th, and that isn't picking up anything, and even that is running slow, it literally stops at a certain point. also i cant keep my homwe page, i think like an unknown trojan is there or something, and everytime i reset it to hotmail, it comes back and gives me another webopage upon opening.

does anyone know of any viruses i dont know about, is there anything else i should do, every program i have installed i need.....im just fed up because i can do things as quick as i use to.....i even defragged a couple of times, and that didn't even work...

holla back plz

You can also get a trial version of NOD32 (it will update during the trial) and scan with that.

Ok buddy, what you have is a "Browser Hijacker". These typicaly take the form of either an exe, a dll or a BHO. Most spyware soft isn't capable of removing these little buggers. You need to google a prog called "HiJackThis". When you do a scan with it you will find MANY entries. But if you remove the wrong ones you may corrupt your OS.

Typical Hijackers look like this...

homepage=redir=searchassistant=blowme

or

dllhlp.dll

or

q.exe.

You'll also find entries like <pestpatrol-reboot once>. if you use pest patrol (and I do) this is a LEGIT entry and you do NOT want to remove it!

These "hijackers" are NOT viruses per se, and explains why many anti viri progs will not block them. Most viri enter your PC through e-mail attachments. Hijackers gain entry through your browser. You usually get them from visting free porn sites and MP3 sites.

As you can see, there are many DANGERS involved with trying to remove these bastrads. And even when using HijackThis you may need to use a prog like Registry Crawler to manually remove entries which keep coming back. There are also times when you need to boot into safe mode and use the MS search option to find something like "aaub.dll" and remove it.

At this point in time I suggest you copy ALL of your data files (jpgs,mp3s etc) to CDr and get ready to do a clean install. Once you backup all your data, you should then download and install EVERY freeware "spy" progs you can find. For starters google...

Adaware

Spybot

HiJackThis

Adaware offers a FREE "basic" version. The other 2 are FREE all the time. Just remeber, when you run "hijack" it will show ALL browser helpers and asociated progs. Many of these are LEGIT! It will show you the details and it's up to you to decide which files to delete.

BACKUP YOUR DATA and GOOD LUCK!

Those are the best two!! And appratly that I have tested myself work like they say they do. Most of the other BS shareware crap is just like memory defraggers which are a ton of BS.
