Hi,

A friend recently asked if there was a program (windows or dos) that can ID all of the hardware on a given system. This would make it easier to search for all of the needed drivers when rebuilding a system. I personally don't know of any such program, perhaps some you do.

You can try Unknown Device Identifier. And it's free

And you can get it here,

Edit:

Nope, doesn't work. Unknown Device Identifier wants to decompress a CAB to the %system root% which is impossible when booting and running Windows PE from a CD. It crashes and burns :-(

Tomboy

user needs,

Thanks, that program looks like it will cover the windows based needs. I would guess that it can be run from a machine booted with a Windows PE disc (going to check it out now). Does anyone know of a dos solution?

For a DOS program, do a search for AIDA 16 bit.
It seems like it has gone from the homepage http://www.aida32.hu/
but use google and search for : aida16en ( I think the last version was 2.12 )

They even have 3 diff. FREE versions for Win9x/NT/2k/XP/LH in _many_ languages.

Tomboy;

try the Belarc Advisor; I dont know if its what you are looking for, but it takes an inventory of everything on your system, and prints it out and stores it in your favorites..
