Can't Connect To Internet Using Ie Xp

I started up my Laptop up a few hours and I just can't connect to the internet Using Internet Explorer anymore.

Strangely, I can use FTP programs and other programs that don't us IE, and they connect OK.

I Tried an IE repair, but no luck

I tried an XP upgrade

I even upgraded to SP2 XP, but still no luck

I have even tried using browsers like Mozilla, but still nothing

My laptop is on a network, but the network is not at fault, if it was then I would not
be able to download stuff via ftp programs which I can still do....

It is only my browsing via IE which is affected

Programs like NOD can upgrade etc..... no probs!!!

I have checked out stuff via ipconfig, and I don't have any problems there...

DHCP running OK, etc etc,....

No proxy settings etc and all settings Ok via connection tabs

I don't want to do a format if at all possible

Any advice here appreciated

Are you using a firewall that would be stopping it from connecting to the net?

disable firewall and pop-up blocker

clear all temp internet files and cookies

check if you are able to ping the websites

Also open IE --> tools --> internet options --> advanced and restore defaults

Scan for spyware as well.
