Any experience with this
I have used a purchased copy of DVDXCopy Platinum ver 4038 , ever since this version came out around 12 FEB,2004. I have copied several movies successfully, and had a couple of screwups.
Tonight I wanted to copy 007 movie, The World is not Enough(1999), and Platinum came up with the message "The disk you inserted is CSS encrypted. This version of DVDXCopy Platinum can not backup CSS encrypted movies"
the same statement came up when I tried to use Xpress.

I got this version, 4038, as soon as it came out. Have others come across this statement??
Has anybody backed up any CSS movies with ver 4038??
Is it only ver 321 that can backup CSS encrypted movies??

@moen,

Because they lost a court case against the MPAA, 321 Studios had to remove the part of their copy software that could decrypt CSS. You appear to be unfortunate to have purchased a post-court case version of the software without this function. You might try to find an older version of the software for sale on eBay or somewhere on the Internet, or as I_R_lectrishun suggests, use a different program.

I used to use 321 because it was easy. Lazy man's way out.

Use DVD decryptor or DVD Shrink. Free Better.

Even better use AnyDVD along with Nero Reocrd 2--now that's high style and quality.

To Tomboy...
No... I purchased 321 and upgraded it before the courtcase to 4038(as soon as 4038 came out). I have made sevral other copies before with this 4038, but this message onl;y came up yesterday.
I would like to hear from other users of 4038, whether they have come across this.

Yes, I will try DVDShrink now....It should work
thanks

moen, does the program has acces to the internet?
1 of the claims of 321 studios to prevent "illegal" use ,was that they could easily modify the software online to prevent or to track down certain things.....maybe they activated a secret command...

Problem solved and explained.

THis is strictly a legal copy that I purchased 2 weeks before the courtcase was anounced, and it worked fine until 3 days ago.
I have figured out what happened.
3 days ago when I tried to use it, as soon as i put in the DVD, the prog aksed to call home, and I let it because it is totally legal so I figured it woulfd be any problem. THEN right away it came up with the message that "this ver of DVDXcopy Plat cannot copy CSS encrypted movies". It would not proceed.
After I posted this, I tried again, the next day. This time I blocked it when it requested to call home. AND guess what, it worked perfectly.

then I called 321 Studios and asked what was going on, and the answer was that this is a technical problem, and as part of the court case, they are required to try to minimize illegal copying. They said to just make sure to block 321 Studios while copying. Later I checked, and found my firewall had actually blocked 321 Studios, and that is why this never occurred before. The lady said that they get many calls about this.
She also said they will not interfere with legally activated customers, and will tell them how to get around this "Technicality".
TOday I phoned back to ask something else, and the guy I talked to would not admit that they actually interfered with the installed prog. He said that they just try to prevent illegal copies of their progs from functioning.
.
VER 321 and 4038 can both copy CSS....period.
Now it works, and I have permanently blocked 321 Studios
