Google acquires Zingku social networking platform
Mobile social networking and communication platform Zingku announced it had entered into an agreement to have Google acquire its service, but Google remained silent of the move. The service, launched in the United States in 2005, allows users to create and exchange things like invitations and "mobile flyers," via mobile phone. It can also integrate cell phones with a personalized web site so that users can easily move things back and forth between the web and their phone. The kind of service offered by Zingku would be crucial to any push by Google to market a mobile phone.

Rumours about the search giant's plans for a Google phone have been multiplying exponentially over recent months. The company's launch of a mobile phone stocked with its software has all but been officially confirmed but exact details on the device have been inconsistent across various sources.
