Sony Recalls 350,000 Digital Cameras
Japan's Sony Corporation was forced to recall 350,000 digital cameras today due to an unexpected fault in the camera's casing, which could leave an edge sharp enough to cut consumers. The problem affects all Cyber Shot DSC-T5 cameras with serial numbers between 3500001 and 3574100, and first became known shortly the DSC-T5 went on sale in October 2005, said a Sony spokeswoman. Users complained that the bottom case warped and left a sharp edge that caused cuts and scratches; thus far, Sony states that 30 Japanese customers and "several" overseas buyers have reported the same problem. The company has promised to replace the bottom casing of all recalled cameras for free. Fortunately, this recall is nowhere near the scope of Sony's last major recall, which affected 4 million laptop batteries and cost the corporation nearly a third of its profits last year.
