Boffs bust internet speed record : 9.08 Gbps gigabits per second
JAPANESE BOFFINS have broken an internet speed record by sending 9.08 Gbps down the wires of a high-speed Internet 2 network.

The University of Tokyo used standard communications protocols to reach speeds of more than 7Gbps and then they tinkered with the protocols and broke the record again by sending data over the same 20,000-mile path at 9.08 Gbps.

It is close to Internet 2's current theoretical speed limit of 10Gbps when tiny Internet 2 policemen will pull over speeding packets and give them a ticket and a dressing gown.

The boffins used IPv6 to break the records. Ironically the older addressing system, IPv4, is a bit quicker and had a record of 8.8Gbps.
