Sony lowers PSP price
Competition with Nintendo

SONY HAS officially dropped the price of its PSP by $30 as it tries to compete with Nintendo.


The price cut comes typically at the right time in a Sony product's life cycle, but it appears that the outfit is worried that its product is taking a hammering from Nintendo's efforts.

Sony's gaming unit posted a third-quarter operating loss of $443 million, largely due to hefty costs for the launch of its PlayStation 3 video game console. Sales in it's cash cow, the PS2, are also starting to decline while the PS3 has yet to replace it, as Sony's main generator of money.

According to USA Today, Nintendo's Game Boy and DS are extremely strong sellers. The DS, which was released in 2004 and costs $130, outsold every other console in the United States in February. The INQuirer
