After a 5,000 word letter on one of China's most popular forums, from a husband writing about a student he suspected of having an affair with his wife, a group of hundreds joined in the attack on the student.Soon the numbers grew from hundreds to thousands, then tens of thousands, groups of total strangers joining together to hunt down the identity of this student, causing his family to shut themselves in their home.This is just one example of a growing phenomenon the Chinese call Internet hunting, where anonymous web users join together to investigate, and dole out punishment for real and imagined offences.
