Intel plunged $10million into Nanochip
Ultra-high-capacity MEMS storage chips on the way

CHIPZILLA splashed out $10 million on a chip company which is making a new class of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS ) storage chips.

Nanochip wants to make an ultra-high capacity version of the chip which can be used in a family of removable, rewritable data storage products.

According to an Intel press release, the new chips will have bit-densities enabling the storage of tens of gigabytes per chip using a nano-probe array technology.

Nanochip will use the cash to get some of its technology into the shops. It sees various applications including digital photography, music and video. It seems that Chipzilla is banking on a golden age of flash type memory which will fast kill off the hard drive and bring peace in our lunchtime. It certainly wants to be in on a slice of the action.
