Microsoft loses IE patent battle
Will have to pay the full wack

SOFTWARE GIANT Microsoft is going to have to stump up more cash to pay for technology it borrowed from Eolas Technologies and the University of California for its super soaraway browser IE.

A jury in 2003 ordered Vole to pay $US521 million for infringing US patents held by on code that enables a variety of software applications to work seamlessly with web browsers.

Vole said that while this was a fair cop, it should not have to shell out more when it flogged the stolen technology in foreign parts.

It went to the US Supreme Court and asked for its liability in the patent-infringement case be limited to US sales of its web browser.

The software giant argued that basing the award on worldwide sales is an expansion of the scope of US patents.

However the Supreme Court said that it would not even hear the eloquent Volish briefs and told them to go away. More Down Under.
