Dutch cops kill 100,000 zombies
INSPECTOR Van Knacker of the Dykes has fingered the collar of three men believed to run one of the largest hacker botnets.

The Dutch men, aged 19, 22 and 27, were believed to be running a botnet, or as it's called a "hornet", based around 100,000 "zombie" PCs.

Police confisculated computers, cash and a "sports car" during searches of the suspects' homes. They will charge the trio with computer hacking, destroying automated networks, and installing adware and spyware on the "hornet".

The "hornet" was based around the W32.toxbot internet "nematode". The worm recruited PCs for the "Zombie Empire" and the three kept adapting the software to avoid detection.

Dutch police also are investigating a possible blackmail attempt using the zombie network against a US company. More at Information Week, here.
