Symantec Complains to European Union
Symantec has filed an informal complaint with the European Union over Microsoft's entry into the software security market. Last week Microsoft announced its intention to create "Windows Client Protection", a comprehensive anti-malware suite aimed directly at the corporate niche dominated by companies like Symantec and TrendMicro. Microsoft is currently beta testing 'Windows OneCare" a similar product intended for general end user consumption.

John Thompson, CEO of Symantec commented last April that they would not let Microsoft "...use their Windows monopoly unfairly." The European Union will undoubtedly look over the Symantec complaint, trying to find just cause in bringing another anti-trust case against the software giant. The EU ordered Microsoft to pay fines of just under $600 million last year over the bundling of Windows Media Player with Windows XP.
