Oh and as far as processor and motherboard go - faster is definelty better (1G+ AThlon or faster P4 best), motherboard not as important but you'll need lots of RAM.
PS- the truly best processor for video editing is the MAC G4's bar none but thats quite an expensive just to do home movies if all your current software is Windows only.
