McAfee Spam Killer does that, as well as filtering out any spam. Also go here & check out the email checkers. I havn't tried them as i use Spam Killer, i just keep noticing them when i go to the site:
hxxp://www.windowsxp.nu/ then click on downloads & find 2 progs: Trayhelper & Outlook Mail Counter
