Virus brings down US Homeland Security - report
VA system shut down for 5.5 hours

COMPUTER VIRUSES affected numerous American international airports yesterday, forcing the Custom & Border Protection system to stop for hours, said the Wall Street Journal.

The newspaper quoted a Homeland Security rep saying the virus affected a number of airports yesterday including NYC, SF, Miami, LA, Houston, and Dallas airports. Presumably patches were applied, or whatever, because the system was up again today.

The officers shifted from PCs to manual inspection systems. The Journal said that things had recovered today, but database systems in Virginia were the source of the problem, for around five and a half hours. And so it goes.
