Have you tried net stumbler? it can reconfigure your wireless card and windows to use "any" wireless network. It said on my computer "your computer is set to only recognize 'linksys' wireless network, or something like that" and it reconfigured it to see all wireless networks (encrypted and unencrypted). Just a thought

btw, netstumbler is very useful for driveby wireless network usage! Its not illegal if the owner of the wireless network doesn't take the measures to secure it! Think about it if you found enough networks you could charge them a fee to secure it for them!
