The chances are it will be media locked by the BIOS in the writer. When a drive is released some manufacturers lock the device so that it can only wite at certain speeds on media they recomend, usually verbatim and a few other major disk manufacturers. Try burning a disk at 2x, if the writer doesnt see the media as compatible with 4x burning you can usually get away with this. If this works you may want to check the manufacturers website for a flash BIOS upgrade, if all else fails then you can go for a "hacked" flash upgrade that will allow you to write at 8x on any media........ BE WARNED, FLASHING YOUR DRIVE CAN KILL IT IF DONE INCORRECTLY- DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!
