Dell Gets $700M Deal From Royal Philips
Dell Inc. said Thursday that it has won a $700 million, 5-year contract to provide computers and services for Royal Philips Electronics. Dell said it will supply desktop and notebook computers for 75,000 workstations in 60 countries for the Dutch electronics giant. Gary J. Cotshott, vice president of Dell's services unit, said the deal supported the computer maker's decision to build its managed-services business starting nearly three years ago.

Dell, based in Round Rock, Tex., is competing against more-established services companies such as IBM, H-P and Accenture Ltd. In October, Dell won a 3-year deal to manage 16,000 desktops and notebooks for Honeywell International Inc. in 15 European countries. Terms of that agreement were not disclosed. In the third quarter, revenue at Dell's service unit rose 32 percent over a year earlier, Cotshott said.
