Here's an idea:
I went into "Regedt32" and did a search for "ProductId".
I found all entries, some entries with both binary and regular numbers. Changed the offending #(s) and re-booted. PID is now changed and all works well.

edit: note, I only had 2 of the offending digits in my PID, only changed those 2, NOT the whole PID!
