All restore CD's I've ever used didn't care about any installed OS, it just repartitioned and restored the OS that was on the CD. You say it won't boot. Then it seems your hardware isn't able (or correctly configured) to boot from CD at all. Since you proved the CD is ok (booted on a friends box) it must be a CMOS/BIOS configuration setting that isn't set the right way.
Another question (seems like a question often leads to many other questions till a usable answer come up) are you able to boot any other bootable CD?
