As far as I'm concerned, that kind of thing's an act of electronic warfare. It'd be interesting to note if the brains behind Starforce 3 can be charged for damaging anyone's PC because of this - you'd think it's enough grounds for a hacking charge at least. Someone need to make an example of them!
As for cracks, I check certain sites (which shall remain nameless so the mods don't ban me) for cracks for the games that I own - I don't like damaging the CD's. The sites I use show what kind of protection the game has.
Oh it gets better. Take a look in the article, at the last sentence in the fifth paragraph down from the top of the page.
Users also aren't alerted to the driver installation by the end-user license agreement present in most of the games that employ the protection technology.
If that is not grounds for a lawsuit, I don't know what is.
