The problem is that ntldr and ntdetect for Win-2000 are older versions that don't support XP and can't boot XP, you end up only being able to boot into '2000.
The XP versions get overwritten when you install Win-2000 into an exsisting XP system.

Back up those files before the install and replace them when your in Win-2000 and you will be OK.
Another option is going into XP's recovery console and using the "fix boot" option or starting the setup and choosing a repair.
