I had the Same Problem Using 2 IDE Controller Cards....With 4 Hard Disks Installed....
In the end I had to remove Two of them from the Controller and Buy another Controller fit the other two....
No more messages since.....It must be a conflict between WindowsXP and IDE Controller which although can have 4 Hard Disks connected, in thery it doesn't work....
I think that I have the same problem as you Grzyb
I will try to install the latest SP2 to see if they have fix this problem

Yes I run chkdsk many times and I defrag my 4 HD
