CANADIAN FIRM ATI said it has introduced co-processors which will deliver proper 3D graphics to games developers for mobile phones.
The Imageon 2300, said ATI, integrates a real 3D engine in a cheap and power aware multimedia companion chip.

The chip supports MPEG 4 decode with real time video playpack at 30 frames a second, video capture ports for high res camera sensors, a JPEG Codec for compression and decompression, primary and sub display engines, and support for 2D graphics as well.

The firm said that the Imageon chip offers support for the OpenGL ES rendering application programming interface, which is royalty free.

The chip is currently sampling, said ATI, and it will show off its wares at the CES show later this week
