make sure both computers are on the same domain name, for example, "MSHOME" are what me&my dad are on and we can see each others computer just fine. Also, not sure if it'll help, but try turning off the ICF(Internet connection firewall) on both PC's. If both computers are running XP, making a networking disk should not be necessary.
