It sounds like a network glitch , I have had the situation where a transfer occasionally stops and the error comes up that the share drive is no longer available but no outright PC shutdowns , most of the time I can successfully transfer any files around my network , the file system on the host/share PC seems irrellevant , I have 95/98 and XP machines all connected most of the time.

Is the crash caused when you send files from the xp box , or use the 98 machene to read remotely.
Does it crash every time you try , or is this a rare fault.
You could try initiating the transfer from the other console to see what happens. In all the crashes I have had here I have still not lost any critical data (touch wood )
