A lot of those kinds of things can be automated in Photoshop by the use of 'Action' files (.atn). They're basically just a script that tells PS the steps to use to get the final result your looking for (like DL's lines). The file can be added to PS and then it's always available, kind of like a filter. Many people write their own but there's heaps already written and freely available for download:
