i heard somewhere that if you use it(any laptop in general) most of the time running from the ac that you should take the battery out completely
That is correct. I burned out a compaq battery that way and now it won't hold a charge. I am typing this reply now on a Sony Vaio and very rarely do I ever put the battery in when I am plugged into power. I pop it in sometimes, maybe once every couple of months, just to make sure that it still takes a charge and it has yet to let me down.
