From what you said in your initial post and now in your most recent response, it sounds to me that you may have had a SCSI DVD drive connected which, indeed, does require a different IDE cable with 50, 68 pins etc ...... that's why I asked you what model your Pioneer DVD drive was.
Anyway, glad you got it sorted.
