My take on the current situation is that the attention of the people in the US has been diverted from fundamental issues like health care, education, environment, retirement, etc. Since 9/11 it's considered bad form to ask too many questions. (you might get hit by a beer bottle).
But, hey, after reading kamikazee's list, who wants to ask embarassing questions?
