Oddly enough, I used a program Recover98 way back when and just the other day, I had another HD crash.
I found that currently, FileRecovey PRO
here:

works a lot better for me and my lost partition tables than anything else.
Also, FileRecovery PRO is made by the same company that made Recover98.
Just my 2cents..
