Ok it may not be the choice of Hollywood film editors but Virtual Dub is my No.1 for editing for SVCD preparation. Unfortunately unless you know how to use it, it can appear to be a little un-user friendly but it is very simple to use. It does a very good job.
If anyone wants a tutorial let me know.
