I believe there is a way to link a file on a ftp server w/o revealing the login and password. Just skip that section of the link, and then when people click the link, they will be prompted to enter a login and password into the server. Try it out, see if it works
edit - so the link may look something like
ftp://mywebspace.com/mystuff/filename.c00 Although, now that I think about it, that may just assume anonymous access... hrmm... its worth a try
