Beta Spanky, this is my brother

He has a Win2k machine upstairs, and he has run a self made cat5 cross-over cable about 40ft to RJ45 socket outlet.

But he cannot get a connection with his down stairs PC. (He has before though).

He has tested the cable with a multi-meter and checked he has wired up the RJ45s up correctly for a cross-over cable.

A multi-meter does not lie you know

I took a guess that the signal degrades before it can the reach the other end of the cable.

Maybe a network hub would boost the signal.

Dunno...

I configured windows networking my-self, but I can't even ping the PC upstairs.

Yet when we take the machine upstairs and use a shorter cross-over cable it works
.

Go figure ah!
