I have a 486 machine and am trying to install linux on it - I am finding that it won't recognize the CDrom to install it, also there is no selection in the bios to chose boot from cdr either..
I tried the boot floppies and all it does is stall. Is there anyway to do this . that is not making me want to rip my hair out. What I am trying to install is Red Hat 7.2 - The machine specs are 486 32 meg of ram, 2 gig HD. Mine it is like this for anything I try to install on it - I dos'ent seem to regognize the CDrom - The only boot floppy that I founf that enables you to use it is the Win 98 boot disk. |
This is probably a silly question, but did you donwload the correct iso?
You have to get the one compiled specifically for a 486 or it won't work. |

Leech,
You can prob dl 7.2 right from RedHat themselves, or through a mirror via their site....Look here: h**p://www.redhat.com/apps/download/ And if its 7.2 you want, try the advanced search located here: h**p://www.redhat.com/apps/download/advanced_search.html Hope this helps some....:) /JD |

Sorry for the late reply, I completely forgot about this thread. :o .
For Mandrake Linux they have a download page with mirrors. It is grouped by architecture, so you can download for your specific architecure. Red Hat also has a similar feature. Find it at [link]http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html[/link] Hope this helps. |
