I was wondering if anyone here was running linux as their main operating system. With all the changes that MS has made in the last couple of years it just may have caused some to put the MS stuff away out of disgust.

If you are, would this be a good time to start a new section only to linux? If there is not enough interest it may not be worth while, but I was just wondering. Also are there others here that are familiar enough with it to help others that are not at all familiar?

Currently BetaONE does not offer a seperate section only for Linux.

I think Mandrake is my favorite and Red Hat is my second favorite

I soon get frustrated though and go back to Windows :D

What I was really interested in is how many people use a different OS.
If there was enough people then a seperate section for each may be something to consider, but only if there is enough interest or need. It may bring in more members is the way I was looking at it that are looking for more info. That way if a seperate section for each was there, it would be as though that section was theirs(meaning I don't have to scroll through mac to find linux, etc.

Personally I have tried linux and did not like it but that is just me.

I like Xandros the best and go through periods of installed the various distros as they are upgraded. After Xandros I like Mandrake. I tend to stick to the ones that set up the LAN and disk mounting automatically. I generally install on my test pc and dual boot.

I understand Xandros is about ready to do a significant upgrade to version 1.1, tho I'm not sure about the intended date.

I've been running Red Hat since version 7 the learning curve is steep from Windows but I find the OS to be quite capable I'm doing everything I used to do in XP on my Fedora core system I don't even have XP as the default now. I rarely run XP it's mostly for a few games I like. The first thing that I did was join a user's group or a LUG there everywhere and you can find help from guys who have a lot of experience. Also grab some books from your local library and start reading. I found a couple of books on the web. One called Rute user's tutorial and exposition by Paul Sheer is very good and every newbie should get the tarball or html and give it a good read of course it has taken me months and I'm still not finished. Anyway I think it's going to get a bigger share among PC and definitely corporate users because it's more secure it's cheaper GPL and it's always being developed by people who use it and want to see it improve. :D

You won't find a Windows partition on this computer. I find that Linux takes care of all my needs. In terms of support, I used to persevere until I got something right, or googled. I never went to forums to get help until I started using Gentoo.

I use FreeBSD for my primary desktop. i got arch linux (www.archlinux.org) installed too on some of my boxes.

on my router, on my laptop and on my server(mail/file/http), but on my primary pc I still have winXp,maybe I'll move it to linux too :)
