I want to know how to do it like at university where you can log onto any computer there and it will give you your desktop with all the standard applications plus outlook with your emails in it and your private my documents folder

if what you want is desktop sharing you can give a try to VNC (http://www.realvnc.com/)

Using VNCwould be a bit odd, knowing Terminal Services (in remote management mode) is installed by default. You don't need any additional licenses for it, and it's setup in a few minutes.

A few disadvantages though, only members of the Administrator/Domain Administrators are allowed to connect to the console. If you want regular users to do that you need to buy additional TS licenses.

But then again, who hasn't got a legal Windows XP Pro license that was bought before Windows 2003 server was released? Such a license can be used to aquire a free Terminal Service (device) CAL. So that shouldn't be a problem too.

What's the difference between Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance?

I am not using Win 2003, but am using XP Pro on two machines. Remote Desktop requires all users to be logged off on the machine to connect to it... Whereas Remote Assistance I can connect and control everything and chat with the person on the other end. But Remote Assistance requires someone to accept the connection.

The Remote Assistance seems to be better, unless I am missing something? I want to be able to connect to a machine and login and do things while someone else is using it.
