Hello, I am looking to purchase a new monitor. I am moving from a Sony Trinitron CRT to getting a widescreen LCD.
I use my system mostly for gaming, internet browsing and Photoshop.
I have been browsing the net and like the looks of Samsung's 172W. Has anyone used a Samsung? Their picture seems very bright, something I like.

Well, thanks in advance for your posts!

Cheers,

I really would not recommend moving onto a LCD if you are into gaming. I would still stick with Sony!

Yep, unfortunately from what I've been reading LCD's don't seem to be quite good enough for gaming yet, at least not in sizes above !7". Check out these articles at Tom's Hardware for some good info about gaming on LCD monitors:

One feature you'll want to look for if you go widescreen is the option to display games or 4:3 video in their true aspect ratio, ie with black bars on the sides. I'm told that even newer games mostly don't yet support widescreen resolutions.

Finally, LCD's have a nice form factor, but for the money... I just priced a brand new top-of-the-line Mitsubishi 22" Flat-screen CRT (DP2070SB) online for US$600 - $650, shipping included. Compare that to a nice Samsung 21" LCD whcih goes for about $1,400 plus tax at the local Best Buy.
