IN AN ATTEMPT to repair the PR gaffe it committed some weeks ago, the egregrious Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has said it's not after hoiking your average 12-year old kid into court after all and stripping her or his piggy bank of his or her savings. According to the Kansas City Star, the RIAA has told a US senator, Norm Coleman, that it's not targeting "de minimis" users, a curiously Latinate turn of phrase.
Cary Sherman, the head honcho at the RIAA, told Old Norm that it is only getting its pleaders to get their clerks to sharpen their quill pens and prepare parchments against individuals who are distributing copyright music big time.Although how female muse Justice ? who legend says is blind ? determines what a "substantial" amount of distribution is, remains silent as a lamb. Norm used to be a roadie and doesn't want kids' piggy banks to be robbed by the RIAA, and he doesn't want Danda ? the staff that the law normally carries ? to throw the children into jail and lose the key.
