Hi there guys.

pc_techie, I had a look at this site, downloaded the software and tried ripping and encoding with Gordian Knot. It did not go too well and I also did not like the fact that Gordian Knot was installing so many packages.

I then tried DVD-to-Divx, but this one click program did not let me really do any selections, crop the top and bottom black bars etc.

I then stumbled across /http://www.dxl.netfirms.com/DVD_DivX_guide.htm

I followed this guide and using a program called Vidomi(encoding) and DVDdecrypter(ripping), I made my first divx without any hassles. Could not be easier.

You guys using FlaskMpeg and Gordian Knot, do yourself a favour and look at this guide and Vidomi in particular. This program rocks!

And you guys using DVD-to-Divx, this is much better and gives you more user input so that you decide how your divx will look.

Go on, give this a try. You won't be sorry.

EDIT: The link now works.

The things Gordian Knot installs are selectable and you don't need it all depending on what your doing.
I have used these methods from everwicked for some time now and consider them to be the best, certainly not the simplest.

As stated I am completely new to ripping and encoding. But I have done a lot of research and tried out many different software packages and found Vidomi to be, yes the simplest, and the best quality - in my humble opinion.

I am not saying that Gordian Knot is not the best, but I just ask that you try out Vidomi and then come back and tell us what you think. I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised as to the ease of use and the exellent quality that you can achieve with this program.

Just give it a try.

It seems several threads have a bunch of posts including the original post missing from them. I wonder what could be the reason. We seem to have a post thief amongst us. :D
