Hi Folks, actually "Drivers" are Software "Code". Now if the "Code" is imbedded in "Firmware", which can still be "Reprogrammed" then that would be much closer to the actual Hardware "Logic". Firmware "Code" has been known to control Logic Switches which are often used these days instead of "Jumpers". Some Chips "Gate Arrays" are "Programmed" by burning "Fuse Links" which is a once only operation, so that seems to me a "Hardware" thingy, as opposed to "Code" that sits on a Hard Drive and can easily be "Reprogrammed". :D

Depends what system you are running them on, practically anything from Windows 3.1 upwards had drivers for cirrus logic cards. You shouldn't need a driver for DOS even!
