We listed Linux as an ALTERNATIVE OS???
LMAO.... Mac, yup thats alternative. Windows CE, yup... but Linux? |
Sure the only real os is LinuX others can *only* be [b:8672b59cab]Alternatives[/b:8672b59cab] :p

You character addicts :D
Windows might crash every now and then, and it might only be for loosers (in YOUR opinions) but it still *RULES*! But your right, I don't believe it should a an Alternative OS anymore. But it seems there is not enough conversation about it to give it it's own section. Cheers Cactus |
No.. I dont think windows is only for losers (even though I use it all the time)...
Linux definatley has potential, but only if it were more compatible with windows file types/applications. The day linux can do everything Windows can, withought having to accept that whenever someone sends me a file I cant open it, I move.. |
You guys dont see the light. I tried Win98/2k/XP and Slackware Linux/Mandrake Linux on this machine
What i observe : 1- Win98 boots real fast and crashes at the same rate. 2- Win2k/XP gives em blue screens all the time why ? Because they dont support i440BX chipsets? Why? How do i suppose intel can make moeny ? huh? Yeah right And linux it boots slower than Win98 , faster than 2k , same time with XP. But a difference it starts a HTTP server , a mail server , a ssh server . Second is about security. I visit my favourite web sites and what i see ? 11 IIS vulnerabilities so called cumulative patches. I just laugh at them. Because our un-beatable Server Apache has only a big vulnerability back in the 1993 only *once* . And linux vulnerabilities only 5-6 in a year and best of all it got fixed same day. Well i still know open ie vulnerabilities. About M$ Office. You dont get that *.doc or *.xls or whatever is no *standard* format. XML is a standart format and widely used by linux applications yeah still i can see your back-doored doc files ( search for this on google you will be surprised ) with my Star Office. So how can i say linux is an alternative? Its the only choice.... |

i'm not trying to defend ms but i440bx chipsets are supported in win2k/xp. i run 2 without probnlems. i also have a linux, freebsd, and qnx bawx.

Huh,
I was just kidding guys. I know linux is faster and more stable than any product M$ ever produced (except for MS Dos 3.30 of course :D ) I just don't wanna make the time to put my nose in the piles of book needed to setup a good working machine. I'm usualy very lasy. With any new version of Windows I can work without much hassle, with Linux/Unix I first have to read so much I loose interrest. Double time must be invested if I want the same functionality my Windows machines give me now. Ones Linux is setup as easy as the M$ products do, I'm sure it will be just as buggie, and crashes just as often. But for now, I have to stick with Windows. I just wish I could snap my fingers, and have the knowledge to switch to Linux, but I tried it a fes times, but with no luck, knowledge wasn't there. :) Cheers Cactus |
Well i got 512 mb ram and xp cant handle it with a i440bx chipset but linux just do fine. Why i say this? Because xp was giving me lots of memory allocation errors, blue screens, reboots etc..
