Hello,
I recently installed a new 160GB 8mb cache hard drive in my computer. However, ever since then it seems Windows is very slow copying/accessing things on the drive. The drive is plugged into an ATA card in my system. While copying large files to the drive, I cannot do anything else with the computer unless I want to wait 30 seconds for things to open. The mouse is very jerky during the copy progress, and every now and then, the mouse cursor will freeze for about 10 seconds. Then it unfreezes and continues copying. Does anyone have an idea why this is happening? It's driving me crazy! Any help is appreciated, thanks! |
Maybe the ATA-card needs fresh drivers. Most often they work good (native) in DOS and then need other, good drivers when used together with f eks WinXP.

Thanks .unicorn!! This is what the problem was! The default WinXP drivers are crap apparently.
Went to Promise's website and found an updated BIOS AND DRIVER for the card! Code:
Ultra133 TX2 |
No problems. Typical isn't it - I often do that myself; get stuck into something and forget what others might think is basic...
Good luck now, |
