Normally when you go to download a file in IE it asks you if you want to save or open this type of file. Accidently I ticked the 'never show this box again for this file type' and now all my .zip extension files are automatically opened without confirmation. Any way to get the confirmation back? I have tried reseting IE to default settings to no avail.

When you go into Internet Properties/Advanced is the Notify when downloads complete window checked?

Full reinstall of WinXP.
I'm sorry, you can see how I take care of things. Hey it's beter than busting the keyboard or throwing the monitor across the room. |
Think you have misread what I asked, or I mistyped what I wanted! When you go to download a file, it usually asks you 'open this file' or 'save this file'. Anything with a .zip extension now automatically opens because I accidently ticked the box 'remember my choice for this file type'. I want the choice back again!

Try to uninstall your .zip program and I would asssume it would erase what you saved for that file type if that program is nolonger there. Then reinstall that app and see.

Don't know for sure, but you can try
Run gpedit.msc go to Local Computer Policy Computer Configuration (or User Configuration) Administrative Templates Windows Components Internet Explorer Browser Menus at the botom you see Disable Save this program to disk option Normally this is not configured, maybe you may change this Worth trying ;) |
