If you do/did it seems that a system restore will work to uninstall it.

Care to elaborate? Have been using WindowsMedia Player 9 for quite a while without any problems.

I recently got updates from MS and downloaded the newest version of Media Player. It seems to be full of bloat and kept trying to call out when playing a song off my HD. I assume to match the file I was playing and give me a link to the artist site or maybe to just record everything I play. It even put hidden album art in my Music folder. There is no hotfix/install number so I couldn't use the add/remove programs to remove it. I'm happy that off all the times I wanted the System Restore to work correctly, this time it did. B)

Options>Privacy Tab>

Enhanced Playback Experience Section. Just uncheck where it says "Update my music files (WMA and MP3 files) by retrieving missing information from the Internet" I uncheck all 3 of those boxes, actually. What could be easier? I suppose you could use RealOne to play your media, including WMA files. I just happen to prefer Media Player and have never a problem whatsoever with version 9.

Version 9 is fine here. Never tires to call out, but I am using a "hacked" build. :) At least according to Zone Alarm Pro. 4.0x. :)

I tend to agree with the majority here. Have been using 9 for a long time with no problems whatsoever. Maybe you could check microsoft's knowledgebase for an answer to your problems with version 9.

Maybe I should have worked with with it more. I'm the kind of guy that when the hood cable on my car snaps, I kick out the grill and pop the hood open with a screw driver.

Maybe I just need more patience.

Thanks for all your replies.

I *had* to install 9 to rip an HDCD encoded album at a high bit-rate. 8 only gave me 192K linear but 9 gives me up to 800K VBR. It did what I needed. It does take some time to set it up though.
