i had nav2003 running, but decided i wanted to try out some new av software so i installed quick heal and rebooted. then let it update and rebooted again. that time after it goes the memory check and that stuff it says:

non-system disk or disk error
replace and strike any key when ready


how do i get back into windows without re-formatting? re-formatting is only a last resort since there is emails and stuff that i really need.

You could try to boot the WinXP CD and do choose the repair options. It will repair the boot mechanisme.

Another way (making sure your original WinXP installtion stays untouched) it to install another verion of WinXP onto another partition. As soon as the installation boots for the first time from harddisk you can choose to boot the original WinXP (be fast though) and delete the files left by the installation. This process will also repait the boot mechanisme.

put in my cd and let it boot from it and got in without any problems. then i un-installed quick heal antivirus and everything is fine again.

you may also try to fix the boot with the repair cd ;) or the mbr
