which proram is good for playing a movie or a dvd with linux ........................is ther any program anyway

Check out h**p://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/linux/index.html for a few good DVD Players. I personally reccomend VideoLAN, although I hear that LiViD is supposed to be quite good (may check it out).

LiViD isn't that wonderful. You can't watch DVD's in fullscreen!!!

CARTMAN how do you manage to play encrypted DVD's? I have installed libcss but they still won't play.

If you use xine you have to check Captain CSS plugin for xine and compile it for Xine then you can play encrypted DVDs. For more info http://debianlinux.net/captain_css.html

I have installed the latest version of Xine along with the Captain CSS plugin. Now I get the error "xine: error while loading shared libraries: libpng.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory". Any ideas?

Well that means you dont have libpng installed go www.rpmfind.net and search for libpng and download the latest mandrake one...

According to rpminst everything is already installed.

Then try this

find / -name "libpng*"

as root paste the results so we can see whats going on...
