It looks like a great burner, NEC have been around for quite a while so it should be decent quality as well. The price converts to around £135 GBP wich is quite honestly dirt cheap! Around £170 GBP is the best i have seen for the OEM version of this writer

Anyone can Explain what is the diffence between
DVD+R and DVD-R What does the '' + '' or the '' - '' ??! |
+ and - are just different formats of the disc. Some say that one is faster then the other. Most burners are "-", but the Apple SuperDrives are "+"...I think anyways, maybe I have that back words. :-D

Nope, you got it the right way round :D

OH good, and one other thing. That DVD burner that you are looking at, it's a great price! And NEC is a great brand, they're monitors are great. I would buy it...if I had a job, and money. BUT i'm only 16, and living off of the parents!

you BOTH have it the wrong way around, Apple Superdrive is using DVD-R, and is "normally" based on Pioneer A04/A05 ( 2X / 4X max ). |
So you are saying that most DVD R's are +R? DVD-R is the most comnmonly used format, until fairly recently you couldnt get a +R drive to save your life. DVD-R was the first instroduced format, hence it is still the most commonly used. The part about the superdrive may have been incorrect but the question about the difference between +R & -R was right, it's simply a difference in the format of the disks. And i honestly couldnt see the benefit of having a +R drive over a -R drive, it didnt burn any faster and the disks cost more.

I was just correcting about the Apple one, and those are based on the Pioneer A04 ( 2x ) and the newer A05 ( 4x ). In the market, I would say that most of the ones who *has* been sold, are -R. In a writeup, those seems to be the "most" compatible ones, regarding stanalone equipment, like DVD players. Something like 95% compatibillity versus 80% for the +R. Regarding speed, the -R was introduced as a 1x in the spec's, then Pioneer offerd 2x on certain medias they verified as compatible. The +R came as a 2,4x giving them a slightly advance in speed, but now both formats are offerd as 4x. If you want to make _sure_ your home-movies can be played in all standalones, you might opt for a combo, that supports both + and -. Right now, the prize of medias seems to be getting close, but the - has so far, been a bit cheaper than the + Regarding this NEC, its a good prize, for a good burner :) It did very well in a recent test, made by the norwegian magazine PWWorld ( www.pcworld.no ) And with support of both + and - it should be a safe choice. |
